Main research activities of the Center:

  • system research on ecological problems in power engineering and coal ash handling;
  • R&D on the coal ash handling;
  • rendering information and technical service in the field of power engineering;
  • collecting and analytic processing of scientific, technical and other information on nature protection technologies;
  • creation and systematic update of the data base "The Best Available and Perspective Nature Protection Technologies in the Russian Power Industry" in Russian and English.

Research on the coal ash handling has been started in 1984 in the research laboratory "Ecology of Power Engineering" of the Boiler Plants and Ecology of Power Engineering Department of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute. Head of research is Ph.D. Viacheslav Putilov, academician of Academy of Industrial Ecology.


Research activities on coal ash handling:

  • Assessment of erosion of pneumtransport equipment and working out recommendations on its reduction.
  • Working out legal, normative and technical documentation on ash and slag and creation of reliable, cost-effective and ecologically sound ash and slag removal systems at Thermal Power Plants (TPP).
  • Assessment of technical, economic and ecological indices of ash and slag removal systems at TPP; working out complex measurements for raising their efficiency.
  • Working out and introduction of technical proposals on modernization of existing ash and slag removal systems and creating new ones with high technical, economic and acceptable ecological indices.
  • Creation of level control systems for coal dust and ash in coal-dust bunkers and silos of coal-dust collecting and ash pneumatic transportation plants.
  • Creation of level control systems for acid, alkalis, oil products and other liquids in TPP tanks.
  • Sediment cleaning of ash and slag lines and pipelines of clarified water of hydraulic ash disposal systems.
  • Automation of ash pneumatic transportation plants under pressure.
  • Development of locking and regulating armature for ash pneumatic transportation systems.
  • Development of ash pneumatic transportation plants with conveying distance up to the 3000 meters.
