Main research activities of the Center:

IACEE conducts R&D on ash and slag from TPPs, collects and makes analytical processing of research and other information in the field of ecology in power engineering, issues informational and analytical collections, holds scientific conferences and workshops. One of the main tasks of IACEE is creation and systematic update of data base on the new technics and nature protection technologies for timely and objective informing scientific and technical public on the state-of-the-art and ways of solving power engineering problems.

Informational and analytical activity of the Center is carried out on the basis of system analysis of state-of-the-art and prospects of solving the ecological power engineering problems on the following main issues:

emissions reduction of TPPs and boiler-houses into air;

sewage reduction of TPPs and boiler-houses into water;

decrease of harmful influence of ashes, slags and industrial wastes of TPPs and boiler-houses on environment;

reduction of noise, electromagnetic, heat pollution and other factors of physical influence of power engineering on environment;

environmental protection at hydro-power engineering objects;

ecological characteristics of alternative energy sources;

collaboration with international organizations on ecological problems.

Center realizes activity in the interests of and in co-operation with:

federal, regional and local bodies of legislative and executive power;

enterprises and organizations of Ministry of Fuel and Energy, Ministry of Nature Protection and other Ministries and Departments in Russia;

Russian and international state and public ecological foundations. .

Special attention of the Center is given to interaction with Energy Forecasting Agency, WGCs, TGCs and other holdings and managing companies in the field of power generation.

For the first time in Russia in September, 2007 the informational collection "State-of-the-art nature protection technologies in electric power engineering", developed by IACEE MPEI according to the Program of ecological policy implementation of RAO "UES of Russia", have been issued.

According to the Program of RAO "UES of Russia" on ecological policy implementation for 2008 for free information access in the field of environmental protection in electric power engineering between experts from different countries all over the world  two free web-sites are being created. They are  "State-of-the-art best available and perspective nature protection technologies in electric powe engineering" and "Coal combustion by-products from TPPs of Russia". The last site is part of the World-wide Coal Combustion Products Network.
